Wow, today Google (GOOG) had quite a ride. First they’re buying napster to compete with iTunes, then they’re not. Then rumors spread that they’re planning on toppling Microsoft with their own Ubuntu Linux based OS, but that was also denied. To finish the day, they reported earnings far below expectations causing their stock to dive in the after hours. Hopefully tomorrow brings some more excitement.

I also know that I write quite poorly due to the fact that I’m an engineer without any grasp of eloquence or creativity. Apparently colleges are starting to text message acceptances. Isn’t this really insecure though? I’m imagining all sorts of false messages being sent with, “You’ve been accepted” or “Actually, we messed up, you’re really rejected.” Not that I would have done anything like that when I was in high school, but I’m sure other, more devious types will. Hopefully they send it with a key of some sort to give it some semblance of authenticity…
It annoys me when people find out that I do well with stocks and they just ask, “What stocks are good now?” Rather than trying to actually learn how to pick stocks, they just want a quick answer. Brings to mind that proverb about giving a man a fish and he’ll eat for a day, but teach him how to fish and he’ll eat for life. I think that’s the thing that really separates the successful people from those that are not: the desire to actually learn a skill rather than having the finished products handed to them. With stocks, unless a person completely holds your hand and tells you “buy this now” and “sell this now,” you will need to learn skills beyond just the picking of companies. So to the point, don’t go in the forums and buy stocks that we like unless you know the rest of the strategy that goes along with it. And yes, we are trying to get that part down too. Till then…
I know it’s early, but if anyone is thinking of things to get me for christmas this year already, you can go get this. I used to think the unmanned vehicle that I worked on was cool, but apparently I wasn’t working on any of the truly great things out there.
Too bad this didn’t work. Trying to lure more women into engineering. Then I wouldn’t have to resort to a gay work relationship…
I am so happy that Ron Artest got traded to the Kings. First of all, that means the Clippers won’t trade Corey Maggette for him anymore. Although the likeliness of that trade was diminishing since the Clippers stopped their slide, this guarantees it won’t happen. Artest is a good basketball player, but that would squash my ability to root for the them since he’s not exactly a likeable guy. Secondly, I dislike the Kings already so it just maintains the balance of teams that I like and dislike. Hopefully the Clips will keep winning so they don’t try to stir up some other crazy trade for Maggette.
So I’ve decided to make a personal website again. It’s mainly to track thoughts on stocks, but there are a lot of things I want to test out so this would be a good place for it. I currently have a lot of other things going on now though so progress will be slower than me running to see Brokeback Mountain with a big group of guys. Hopefully logging stuff here will help me follow through with things though. Till then, go post some ideas in the forums…
